BIO
Born in Tel Aviv in 1985 and raised in Vancouver, Adam Basanta has been living and working in Montreal since 2010. After studying contemporary music composition, he has developed a broad, experimental, autodidactic artistic practice in mixed-media installations, sculpture, and print media. Across various media and techniques, he investigates technology as a meeting point of concurrent, overlapping systems—a nexus of cultural, computational, biological, and economic forces. Since 2015, Basanta's works have been exhibited worldwide, receiving various honours in both Canada and abroad.

Disoriented by our surroundings, one can’t help but question the structures shaping individuality. A materialist view, steeped in indicators and advanced statistical calculations, confronts us with the question: What is an individual? What defines an individual or a corporate entity, if not a managerial organism—a dynamic collection of nodes, roles, and structures? Through observations, ROUGH BEAST explores these themes through speculative auto-fiction on AI and labour, network science and data rights, personal doubts, collective memories, and the artist’s role within the corporate world.
Produced as part of an artist residency at Ubisoft Montreal 2022-2023.
